Anika Jane Beamer, a spring 2025 fellow at Inside Climate News, is a Midwesterner who’s spent years researching and thinking about life’s little guys—viruses, bacteria, and fungi. A student in MIT’s Graduate Program in Science Writing, she writes about climate, health, and how manmade changes to the environment are transforming microscopic life for better and worse. As a scientist turned writer in America’s agricultural heartland, she believes that good science writing has the power to unravel powerful misconceptions about who science is and isn’t for.
